So your writeups on the recent debates are really good! But, I still am wondering, why exactly is it any writers duty to focus on these issues, and if it is how are they suppose to approach it? At times I feel like everyone expects the authors to have a checklist of things that they need to cover, when the author might not be able to relate to some of the issues?
[22:27] roach: shit I did not take a shower again and I am tired and
[22:27] roach: this art is not done
[22:27] biichama: *hugs*
[22:28] roach: and I have all these questions about a writer’s obligation to their society in my askbox
[22:28] roach: ):
[22:28] biichama: ******hugs******
[22:29] roach: a writer has a voice
[22:29] roach: so
[22:29] roach: IDK
[22:29] roach: I keep going around in circles on that one
[22:29] roach: with great power comes great responsibility!
[22:29] roach: You are responsible for what you say, that is ON YOU.
[22:29] roach: Writers say things louder.
[22:29] roach: So what they say affects more people
[22:29] roach: so in turn they are more responsible, or responsible more intensely, or something.
[22:30] roach: so
[22:30] biichama: writers are spiderman :D
[22:30] roach: at least sort of like superpowered
[22:30] roach: people
[22:30] biichama: yeah
[22:30] roach: so when they say things that are damaging
[22:31] roach: they have the power to damage more intensely
[22:31] roach: difference between a guy kicking a car, and the hulk kicking a car
[22:31] biichama: yeah!
[22:31] roach: I just don’t know, I feel like you either go along with the inculcated destructive bullshit society feeds into your head
[22:31] roach: and when you get a big voice you in turn perpetuate that bullshit more strongly
[22:32] roach: or you stand up and say NO
[22:32] roach: and you use your voice to try and dismantle
[22:32] roach: the entire
[22:32] roach: fucking
[22:32] roach: world
[22:32] roach: because everything is all these awful loops of oppression
[22:32] roach: trying to go against everything is a form of madness
[22:32] roach: really
[22:33] roach: but so that’s how I feel about writers. You either go with the premise that the world should run on oppression— and many people do, because they benefit from this oppression—
[22:33] roach: or you say NO and you spend the rest of your life
[22:33] roach: helpless
[22:33] roach: and scared
[22:33] roach: and wondering
[22:33] roach: and tired
[22:33] roach: and angry
[22:33] biichama: wow
[22:33] biichama: yeah
[22:33] roach: it’s just such a huge machine and sometimes I think I will never do anything but be mad at it.
[22:33] roach: I hate it. I hate it all. And I hate that I can’t be someone who can do more to stop it
[22:34] roach: and that is what I am trying to figure out how to say to everyone.
[22:34] biichama: ***********hugs************
[22:35] roach: yeah
[22:35] roach: thanks
[22:35] biichama: what you just said to me makes sense
[22:35] roach: maybe I’ll just post this log
[22:35] roach: yeah
[22:35] roach: the responsibility a writer has to not perpetuate damaging bullshit: the exact same responsibility everyone else has
[22:36] roach: who also possesses a working appreciation of the fact that we’re all thinking, feeling, suffering entities
[22:36] roach: whether or not they abdicate that responsibility
[22:36] roach: is their own decision to make
[22:36] roach: and whether or not I will be disappointed in them is directly predicated on it
[22:36] roach: there
[22:36] roach: that’s my thesis.
[22:36] biichama: yeah!
[22:36] roach: /ollies out
[22:36] biichama: it’s a good thesis
[22:36] roach: I’m just gonna post this log
[22:36] roach:
fuck it
